In this rapidly globalizing world, language has been a crucial factor in its development as it helps us connect and effectively communicate with one another. Beijing itself is home to millions of Chinese from different parts of China and has one of the largest international expatriate communities. I believe that Beijing Normal University will give me the opportunity to not only immerse myself in the Chinese culture, but will allow me to be a part of the diverse group of international students. Though coming to China is an extraordinary step to becoming a world-wide citizen, attending Beijing Normal University will give me the chance to witness the world’s development from the first row. Beijing Normal University offers education that satisfies the high standards of world`s top universities and it attracts even the best students on the planet. The gorgeous campuses offered by Beijing Normal University and extracurricular activities have driven my interest, such as the city tours and field trips the school offers. I want to change the way I see the world, my own country, and ultimately myself. There may be many universities out there but no other university can help me achieve my goals like Beijing Normal University.

Program Description
1. Introduction to Chinese Language Program
Editor Notes: The Chinese language program is featured by Different Levels of Classes & Small Class Teaching.
- Different levels of teaching is our feature.
- We have nine different levels of classes for students to choose, ranging from beginners' to advanced, Students will take 20 hours Chinese class each week.
- Students are placed in appropriate class after a placement test upon registration.
- Small-class teaching is our tradition: 15-20 students class gives every student more opportunity to speak.
- We emphasize on students’ performance in the class and changing teacher-center class to students class thoroughly.
2. Study Duration and Study Mode
Editor Notes: There are two phases for students to apply this program. Students can arrange their own timetables for their study.
- Duration of study is one semester or more.
- Different classes are arranged for beginners and students of advanced levels.
- Study in the College of Chinese Language and Culture.
3. Faculties and Curriculm
Editor Notes: This program holds strong and committed teachers and full range of curriculum.
- Highly experienced and fully professional teachers make students improve their communicative ability by practicing in listening, speaking, reading and writing, and engage students in practical student-centered activity.
- Full range of courses are provided for students, such as Chinese history, Chinese literature, Chinese geography and so on.
- We also offer rich elective courses to students which can stimulate students’interests and make students have a better understanding of Chinese and Chinese culture, courses such as calligraphy, Kung-fu, Chinese ancient poetry and so on.
4. Study Atmosphere

BNU is the best place for international students to study Mandarin with a strong learning atmosphere. There are many international students come from different countries all over the world, and teachers as well as students here are also very friendly.


5. Entertainment & Extracurricular Activity

We offer richly colorful extracurricular activities, such as Beijing Opera appreciation, Chinese language competition , culture tour and so on, which is an appropriate method for students to put their knowledge into practice.


6. School Introduction

- Beijing Normal University has a history of more than 100 years, which is almost as long as the history of Chinese modern education.
- The University is a national base for Teaching Chinese as Second Language; it makes great efforts to expand programs for international students.
- At present, the university has established cooperative ties with over 200 universities, international organizations and enterprises from more than 30 countries and regions.
- Established in 2004, the Beijing Normal University- Hong Kong Baptist University United International College is the first united college jointly established by a Chinese mainland university and a Hong Kong SAR university.

7. College of Chinese Language and Culture
Editor Notes: The College of Chinese Language and Culture has now become a national center for the research and instruction of Chinese as a foreign language.
- The College has formed close academic relationships with a number of overseas universities such as Princeton University, Dartmouth College, University of California, Ohio State University, San Francisco State University, Iowa University, London University, Kanazawa University, Osaka University of Foreign Studies, Meikai University, Kanagawa University, Seoul National University, Sung Kyun Kwan University, etc.
- The College has established two collaborative Confucius Institutes with San Francisco State University (USA) and Manchester University (UK) respectively. In 2011, the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University was named an Outstanding Confucius Institute.
- The Dean of the College, Professor Xu Jialu, is a famous linguist, social activist and scholar of Chinese culture.
- The faculty at the College consists of 58 permanent members, including 10 professors, 24 associate professors, 19 lecturers and 5 administrative staff members.
- According to the evaluation conducted by the Degree Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education, this degree program has always been one of the top universities among all the 70 relevant universities in China.
