Program Description
Program Introduction
The Beijing Normal University Summer Short-Term Chinese Language Program, distinguished by its structured, small-class teaching approach, is now open for enrollment! Led by experienced faculty from the School of International Chinese Language Education, the program is designed to help students make significant progress in their Chinese proficiency within a short time frame. Through a dynamic combination of instruction and practice, as well as an engaging, student-centered learning environment, the program fosters linguistic competence, enhances communication skills, and deepens students' understanding of Chinese culture.

II. Program Schedule
The program is offered throughout June and August each year, with six-session options. Applicants may choose a session that best fits their schedule.
III. Curriculum Arrangement
Session A: June 29 – July 10 (2 weeks)
Session B: June 29 – July 24 (4 weeks)
Session C: June 29 – August 7 (6 weeks)
Session D: June 29 – August 21 (8 weeks)
Session E: July 27 – August 7 (2 weeks)
Session F: July 27 – August 21 (4 weeks)
Students may apply for mid-session enrollment in an ongoing program. For instance, a student may request to join the final two weeks of Session B starting on July 13. Students seeking mid-session enrollment must specify their request in the application and contact the School in advance. (The minimum enrollment period is two weeks.)
The Summer Short-Term Chinese Language Program aims to enhance learners' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese within a short period while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture.
1. Class Structure
The summer program is divided into three proficiency levels: Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced. Based on placement test results, each level may be further subdivided to accommodate students' varying language proficiency. For instance, the Introductory level may be categorized into Absolute Introductory, Lower Introductory, and Upper Introductory.
Proficiency Requirements:
l Introductory Level: Designed for learners with no prior Chinese experience or those at HSK 1–2
l Intermediate Level: Designed for learners at HSK 3–4
l Advanced Level: Designed for learners at HSK 5 and above
2. Curriculum Structure
Each proficiency level offers two courses: Reading & Writing and Listening & Speaking (available for classes with a minimum of 15 students). In addition, two cultural experience activities are organized each week, covering topics such as Chinese calligraphy, painting, paper cutting, music, and Chinese martial arts. Participation is voluntarily optional, and activities will be held if at least 20 students enroll. A separate tuition fee applies to cultural experience activities.

Instruction will be primarily based on the above textbooks, supplemented with additional materials tailored to students' proficiency levels and learning needs.

4. Grading Criteria
Instructors will assign written or oral homework, in-class tests, and quizzes as needed, which will be recorded as part of the overall coursework grade.
Grade Composition:

Grades are calculated on a 100-point scale. If a student’s home university has specific grading requirements, grade conversion will be conducted accordingly.
